Solution 2 Midi System


MIDI System

MIDI information is sent from MIDI OUT to MIDI IN, or from MIDI THRU to MIDI IN. The information is always sent one-way, so that the Sender and Receiver in conversation remain the same.

A MIDI Controller Keyboard, with lots of controls and without onboard sounds. They are used to control MIDI information to MIDI products. Such as a MIDI Sound Module that has, no keyboard attached. These have fixed duties as a Master or a Slave, the Sender is the Master and the Receiver is the Slave.

We could construct a large chain of MIDI instruments together, one after the other, via MIDI THRU to MIDI IN’s. However, after about the fourth or fifth instrument in the Network chain. The MIDI information will be harder to understand, because a lot of MIDI information, will be transmitted through these instruments at one time.

Ok now, just say you have your MIDI System Network all setup ready to go. Nevertheless, you are only transmitting on MIDI Channel 1, which is the default channel on most MIDI Instruments. You can therefore assign different MIDI Channels, to your instruments from MIDI Channels 1 to 16.

These days it is called GM, which stands for (General MIDI).It is the basic solution 2 MIDI Sound Mapping, like basic instruments on Keyboards, Sound modules, Computer Soundcards and Sequencers. Which response to controller information like, Sound Numbers/Banks, Polyphonic and Multitimbral ETC...

MIDI can transmit all MIDI Channels 1 to 16, with all different information going on at the same time, via one MIDI old school cable. A Master keyboard setup can transmit to a number of MIDI Instruments one at a time. For example, MIDI Instrument 1 on receive channel 1 and MIDI Instrument 2 on receive channel 2.But note you can only transmit to one instrument channel, then switch over to the other instrument channel at one time.

To play all 1 to 16 Channel MIDI parts at the same time, you are going to need a product called a MIDI Sequencer System. A MIDI Sequencer can remember, record and playback. Your MIDI data information as in a song structure i.e. Intros, Choruses, Verses, Bridges and Outros.

A MIDI Sequencer System can control a complex of MIDI information automatically. For example, an old Master keyboard or a Hardware Sequencer could have had, a simple 8 or 16-track sequencer onboard. Playing a synth melody, a piano chord, strings, bass and drums on this 5-part arrangement. But nowadays a modern Workstation Keyboard, Hardware Sequencer and Computer Software, can do the job ten times over.

Software Sequencer Setup A Computer Software Sequencer System, like the old Atari Home with Cubase and Creator software. Computer could control even more MIDI information automatically. In addition, these are only a few MIDI Commands.

• Volume.

• After-Touch.

• Velocity.

• Program Changes.

• Midi Effects.

• System Exclusive Information.


A MIDI sequencer can even control a MTR (Multi-Track Recorder) via SMPTE (The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) and MTC (MIDI Time Code).DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) via MMC (MIDI Machine Code). Alternatively, a Drum Machine and second Sequencer via MIDI Song Position Pointer.
